The stress at my job reached an all-time high last week, causing me to raise a white flag and request a mental health day.

I spent some time the morning of my day off on the phone with a good friend, lamenting and problem-solving my situation, then ventured out to a local literary center’s coffee shop for a warm cup of tea with a good book tucked under my arm.

I parked myself on their patio and enjoyed the pleasant sounds of chirping birds and the feel of warm sun on my skin as I sipped and read.

Later, I toured the inside of the building and spotted a few sights perfect for this month’s prompts. The day proved to be exactly what I needed — a calming mental reset and a much-needed opportunity for my creative juices to flow.

How can I not resist getting a closer look at details like this? A section of the walls inside the center held the remains of a fanciful wallpaper, aged over time and partially peeling away to reveal basic bricks behind it.
