No-27 Was a Sunny Day- Like Paul Simon.

a parade scene
A copy of a purchased slide photographer unknown.

She was a high school queen with nothing left to lose….Lorelei
He was a navy man stationed in Newport news
She was a princess soon to be a queen
He was dreamer soon to live a dream
She had hopes that fuelled her each desire
He had desires that filled his every hope
She had love that burned just like fire
His love was clouded in the smoke
Her love was just a pile of ashes
His love was nothing but a joke
Sometimes love just cannot find a way
Sometimes clouds can end a sunny day

My beautiful lady, Bea, required some radiation following breast cancer surgery. Cancer is an absolute horror but it rests in the open arms of generosity and the kindness.

Community, that sometimes feels lost, springs into life. Together we joined, in a bond of strength and confidence.

Healers heal, listeners listen, Nurses nurse, drivers drive, cooks cook, bakers bake, Everyone does their strength with love.

Radiation was 50 kilometres away, and many shared the daily go forth and come back routine.

Thank you to all our lovely family and friends. Your strength became ours.

No-28 The writing’s on the wall.

No.-30 In a matter of Time.

Phot by Bea Keeler

It was just a matter of time before cannabis would be accepted. The writing was on the wall. This project was a two-for.

We used to get high on the sly
We couldn’t let anyone know
The cops they were ready and a half ounce was plenty
To community service you’d go

We used to throw seeds in the ground
We’d chop it and hang it to dry
Roll it in paper or stuff in a pipe
It was easy as pie to get high

Thank you Mr. Trudeau
We love you more than you know
Now pot is legal, we can fly like an eagle
Thank you Mr. Trudeau

So I asked for the government store
But it must be purchased online
I’m in a quagmire, but we have a new supplier
And the postie delivers on time

When I opened the web page to see
Such a vast variety
Pills vapes and gums, sprays for under your tongue
But a green plant is just fine for me

You’re the best Mr. Trudeau
Four plants in the greenhouse will grow
There’s a headache with wine, but pot feels just fine
So thank you Justin Trudeau

Now some folks say pot makes you slow
Unmotivated with no place to go
But that can’t be true, I love dancing with you
Out to dinner with tickets to a show

No.-31 Breaking Bad- Make it good.

When we travel we meet new people. What does our mind do when faced with this instantaneous situation.

The first thoughts involve appearances. How does the subject look? Analyze, analyze, analyze, to the exclusion of their name or any other details they might be relating. The visual test is always first.

Ethnicity jumps to mind in the next second and you begin to define this stranger. Past experiences and perhaps a hint of prejudice sways opinion. You may attract or resist a little. It is a split decision only seconds into the meeting.

How do the words sound? Are they encumbered by a different culture. Another sprinkling of prejudice or identification and approval?
Surely their food choices don’t capture your olfactory senses.

All this was present upon meeting Mervyn.
He appeared older. He was dressed in retro and or goodwill pants and sweater. The hat was well worn and purple.

AAAH but underneath it all resided a wise and kindly soul. Yes I noticed his glass eye and occasional ragged beard but I also noticed a mischievous and whimsical smile.

Mervyn was comfortable in his own presence.

He loved food and effortlessly cooked a Sunday roast for groups of friends. His curry was renowned.
So initially I guess we are all susceptible to quick judgment…we break bad. The important thing is to make it good. Find the beauty in all occurrences, and life becomes sweeter.

This lovely man passed away in Portugal just before Covid. We have returned to Portugal since and we surely missed him.
