52 Week Photo Project
April, Come She Will
And we can hope to live for another day…
Of all the cemetery signs I’ve seen in my backroads travels, this takes the prize! On the outskirts of Alma, KS, where most people zoom by on the interstate, declaring Kansas too flat and boring, the Flint Hills offer a breathtaking array of scenery and odd sights. Ironically, on the day I submitted this collection of photos for the 52WPP, ten years ago to the day I took this Welcome Cemetery photo.
14 — Sweet Stuff- Interpret that as you will.
After leaving the hectic highways around Los Angeles, I delighted in the barren landscape south of the city near the Salton Sea. “Slab City,” aka “Salvation Mountain,” is perhaps the strangest place I’ve ever visited. This artistic creation conveys the look of frosting on the cake, sweet stuff!
15 — Bodyscape- A tribute to the human form.
How can you ignore the gaunt creature next to you on a park bench as you’re opening your snack bag? These thought-provoking figures, live and not, on display in Grant Park, downtown Chicago, captured my interest.
16 — Think Different- Like Apple, or not.
Why do I like driving the backroads while others prefer zooming along Interstates? I think different, I guess. I caught a glimpse of this storefront as I drove through rural Indiana. The town’s name, Loogootee, captured my attention. Then, seeing this store with “DD,” my initials, on the window caused me to circle around the block for a closer look. And then I saw the juxtaposition of the Prince of Peace and the king-wanna-be.
17 — Guilty pleasure -Interpret that as you will.
My favorite moments to enjoy — sunrise or sunset. It usually requires a special trip to find a suitable spot, hence guilty pleasure. Timing is everything. Having someone perform while standing on the edge of a cliff is a bonus. I lucked out on this while at Bodega Bay, CA, back in 2017.
Thanks to the Full Frame gurus who make this 52WPP possible! It’s a great therapy!
