Arum Lilies — A Study

Every spring, when Arum lilies are in season, I tend to find some time and make sure that I capture a couple of shots of these wonderful flowers.

This article goes into just that and by the end, maybe I will find the answer to the question — “Why I am photographing these Arum lilies?

The Subject

To understand why I am photographing, first I need to examine the subject. What intrigues me? Why do I always feel that I have to photograph it? What are the characteristics of these Arum lilies?

These flowers, even though they are from the same plant/source, come in different shapes and sizes. Some are open, some are a bit closed. Some open in a way, some open a bit differently, bigger, smaller even.

Yet they are all similar in that they are all the same color — yellow spadix full of pollen and those greens fading to the white flower with straight lines.

Due to the fact that they are all different and seasonal, they make for different compositions. This serves as a good photographic exercise and during composition, makes me more…
