Autopsy of a Street Photo
The strength is in the concept
Today, for my morning photo session, I took the tram to the downtown area of Torino.
I frequently take public transportation to start off my daily photo sessions. But I usually take the #3 tram that starts a couple of blocks from my apartment. When there are two trams waiting at the platform, I’ll get on the second — happy to wait a bit longer for my preferred window seat. I’ll even clean both the inside and outside of the window area I sit next to in order to get a clearer view.
In this case, however, I took a different tram — the #15. In the past, I’ve taken the #15 in the direction away from downtown, just to get my preferred, and cleaned seating. But today I got a late start. I let one #15 pass because it was packed. But the next one at least had space to stand, so I got on the second of two cars.
After validating my e-ticket, I worked my way to the very back of the car — it was one of the older trams in service and had a full window facing out the back. Unfortunately, the window was filthy on the outside. It was so dirty I didn’t even bother cleaning the inside, as doing so would have been like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Never one to waste an opportunity, and as I always have my camera in hand, I decided to see what I could…
