Cameras I Own and Love: SonyEricsson K530i
The best camera is the one you have with you.
This is the story of my first mobile phone camera and how I delved into the language of instant photography that these cameras ushered in at full speed. Back in the day, photography was still somewhat expensive, and carrying cameras around all the time wasn’t common, even for professional photographers. Camera phones changed that, and I wanted to be at the center of the revolution.
In 2010, I made a New Year’s resolution to shoot and publish one photo per day for a ‘365 project,’ which was a then big thing on Flickr. At that time, Flickr was one of the most popular (if not the most popular) sites for creative photography on the internet, with a vibrant community of photographers from all branches of this craft. The community encouraged ‘challenge projects,’ one of which was the 365 that many of us undertook.
To be honest, I tried with a DSLR camera, but two weeks into it, I realized I couldn’t carry that weight around all day. So, following the logic above, I switched to a camera phone, the modest Sony Ericsson with barely two megapixels. Well, that was 2MP of pure fun and joy.
