Winter sun brightens February greys. After the storm, the glistening snow softened everything, shaping my garden into gentle curves.

It may be sunny, but it’s deceptively cold outside. Whenever I check, I open the door only to slam it shut again. Even dogs refuse walks.

Six more weeks of winter, according to groundhogs — let’s hope they’re wrong.

No more outdoor shoots, numb fingers from the cold, or so I keep telling myself — until the next sunny day arrives and fools me once more.

In the meantime, I’m happy to cozy up indoors.

on the rocks
interpret that as you will

Crouched on the rocks,
your lone silhouette,
lost in a grey fog of uncertainty.

Your betrayal was as certain as this misty prophecy,
but I failed to see it coming.
