Getting a fresh start for this raucous New Year’s challenges! I enjoyed participating last year, and I’ve enjoyed seeing what images have been selected over the past months that I had to drop off. So, Rodrigo S-C, if you’ll have me, I’m back!

1-Keeping Time- Interpret that as you will.

It’s time — way past time in my way of thinking — to address family homelessness. This tyke at a family shelter is one of literally millions of little kids experiencing family homelessness. This has been, is, and will be my focus (www.hearus.us).

2-A Hazy Shade of Winter- Like the song, or not.

I took this in January, on a beach near Savannah, GA. I had just purchased a Canon EOS 60D and wanted to test it out. This shot made me happy and encouraged me to keep practicing. (I’ve since sold the camera and now depend on my trusty iPhone 16 Pro.)

3-Crooked- Interpret that as you will.

Maybe not crooked, but at least confusing. Having traveled hundreds of thousands of backroads, I’m always on the lookout for these quirky images. I’ve never been disappointed.

4-Do you Remember?- Take us back.

I had time to wander through a hardscrabble Texas town at the end of my 2020 cross-country HEAR US tour. The collection of this old stuff in a store’s display reflected the nature of this town. Little did I know that in a few days after this stop, I’d be stopped for months because of Covid’s quarantine.

5-Frozen- Like the movie, or not.

I have scads of wintery shots from my travels. I’ll just say that living in a camper and traveling to parts of the country known for brutal cold is asking for trouble. At least on this particular night, I had enough heat to melt some of the ice.
