Experimenting with the new Fujifilm X100VI as I travel… crop, crop, crop.

18-It’s all in the details. Interpret that as you will.

It’s easy to take classic coastal shots in Croatia, but the ones I took felt a bit predictable. So I began looking for detail, and was drawn to the bark, needles and seeds of these maritime pines (pinus pinaster). An aperture of f5.6 blurred the background sufficiently so the eye isn’t drawn to the water, but the colours still give a clue to what lies behind.

A search for ‘mirror’ in the photo archives brought up hundreds of water reflections, but this was the most mirror-like, not only for the reflection in the still water, but also the way the timber corner ‘mirrors’ the peak. I could have cropped out the footprinted snow on the platform, but actually I like it — as a reminder that not everything has to look perfect, and it adds…
