I’d like to thank Rodrigo S-C for all his kind work in the 52 week project. He is tireless and gifted in the art of photography, as well as his writing. He curates and evaluates from a knowledge base that is expansive. He inspires all who have contact with him. He is also funny as fuck every time we have a FaceTime conversation. I just love the man.

However he has missed a few submissions in his Best Of 52 Weeks.

Following are some of my favorites.

Week 19- Power to the People

A stylized house

Rodrigo first started photographing houses as part of a real estate commission. I love the way he has adapted the basic into the imaginative.

Week 16- Upside Down.

At first inspection we see an open window inviting us, the upside down hanging lamp sets the scene for the reversed image out the window. The lawn, the distant windows, and the undefined structure draw is to question our perceptions. Art seeking answers.

Week 21- The Dark Side

Here again drawn in. Light painting is controlling light in new ways. It’s a playground but with added (is that scaffolding?) and the green foreground. Much to consider.

Week 25- New to Me

Rodrigo seldom leaves things in their original form. He adds himself to his images. By manipulating line shape and color just enough, he brings his own unique expression to the art.

Week 52- Self-Portrait

An artist self portrait
Self portrait by Rodrigo S-C

As I said before, he puts his art into all things he does. Behind him here, is a brilliant abstract expression, but held together with his power lines (there is power in those lines) and solid rectangles. The power lines have been ingeniously incorporated into the abstract. The three yellow rectangles for balance.

I have found some other great submissions.

Week 17- Leading Lines

The wonderful clarity of Alison Spence Montillet’s image here just stopped me in my search. The lines converging, the stairs inviting, and even the reflections all in sharp resolution. So well done.

35. Monochrome

Sticking with the theme of b&w, and ultra sharp imaging, I fully enjoyed Aaron Paulson’s straw on a rail image. The tradition of straw bundles and the metal and brick and glass of another age caught my fancy. I ask what is going on here? Pics do speak.

Week 35- Monochrome

Grant Bullert is an excellent photographer. I have seen many of his images and particularly like his self portrait. Here I selected his flowers because such a common subject becomes so much more done in monotone. The black and white balance and the detail in each is the mark of a keen eye.

Week 47- This Must Be the Place

I definitely like this Jesse R. Barker’s work. The right moment must be achieved for the best shot. The distance between the crowd and the foreground balances and keeps the people in the center. The roof colors speak for themselves.

If you haven’t seen his statue in the harbor image go find it in his most recent work.

Week 26- I See Red

Photos by Michael Agrios

Michael Agrios sees light like no-one else. He treats fog with the mystery it deserves. The foreground is the strongest part of the image holding down the unknown distant shapes.

Week 17-Leading Lines

Disused Rail Station photo by Michael Agrios

Michael creates mood in photography so very well. The central figure in monotone with strong shadow, is the center piece in this lonely city-scape.

Week 44- Mirror Image.

I was drawn to this image because I could not believe what I was seeing. A twisted bridge is something, but Sanghita Pal’s timing and execution are excellent. Great perspective and the reflections rock.

Week 48- In The Heat of The Night

It is a challenge to get such a clear and sharp image at night. However, I have seen some amazing shots from iPhones that work even in dark conditions. kasey sparksdid very well in this image no matter the camera she used. The colors and lines work perfectly.
