Although it is not much in use nowadays, the Munich Olympiastadion was an architectural marvel at the time and is still today. As a kid, I watched Bayer Munich games on TV that were played in this stadium. So many years later when I had the opportunity to visit I felt emotional and the sentiment came back to me. A place full of history, a truly architectural marvel, and guess what? It’s great for photography.

Constructed for the 1972 Munich Olympics, it hosted many events during 50 years of history. The main architect responsible for this masterpiece is Günther Behnisch with the help of the German architect and structural engineer Frei Otto, with the assistance of John Argyris.

One of the most interesting characteristics of the stadium is the rooftop which is the most recognizable symbol of this structure. It was contracted to pay homage and mimic the Bavarian Alps. The rooftop looks like it was built…
