My Experience Photographing the Moon

I wasn’t exactly over the moon

I’ve always admired the sparkling shots of the moon online.

Some of those shots tempted me to photograph the moon, too. And why not? But since I only often saw the moon at night, it would be an incredible challenge. My camera isn’t exactly a low-light champion.

My best bet was catching the moon smiling when it was not too dark at night. As soon as I started tracking the moon the following months, it wasn’t long before I saw it appear before night.

Next steps

I finally had the moon, but finding the right location proved challenging.

When you live in a city like mine, you don’t always enjoy all the freedom to want to shoot the moon. You deal with buildings obstructing your view and vehicles honking at you because you’re in their way.

And the mosquitoes aren’t too far away. At least those were the realities in neighborhood of Accra. But once I had decided to do it, there were no excuses.

My gear for the shoot

Since I didn’t know the exact day I’d catch the moon smiling at dusk, renting all the gear I would need was impossible.
