A musician, a weaver, and a photographer walk into a bar. They morph into a single artist: the abstract photographer Paul Gravett — based in New Westminster, Canada. That is not a joke.

Paul studied piano and earned a performance degree — which led him to a professional musical career. He concurrently became a successful weaver — incorporating both floor loom and tapestry weaving. Those two areas of creative expression are book-ended by his interest in photography.

Over the past few years, Paul has been focused on his photographic expression. He is represented by the Van Dop Gallery — that’s where our paths crossed. We have also exhibited concurrently at the Queens Park Gallery.

I thought you may be interested in getting to know him. Here is my interview with Paul:

Rodrigo: For someone who has never seen your work, how would you describe your approach to photography?

Paul: My work is not what you think of when you think of photography. When people see my images, they are often surprised my approach is based on photography.
