This Picture is Very Silly
Why? Just why?
“Because it’s there.” — George Mallory, 1924 (when asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest’s North Face).
I have not been getting out much of late, but last Friday, my granddaughter was on school holiday, and my son and she wanted to visit a beloved local natural history museum. I got out my rollator, Bob (Walker), and my fave walkabout kit and tagged along.
One room is dedicated to “Bizarre Beasts,” including the above mockup of a Mesozoic pterosaur, a broad family of leather-winged flying reptiles, the earliest vertebrates known to have evolved powered flight. I hang out often in this room because I love all these guys. They are like old friends. I have collected dozens of pictures of them since 2017.
So, long story shorter, I very much enjoy making photocomposites — photo illustrations. They are hecka fun. On this most recent visit, I’d made that new picture of good old Pterry and, for reasons not now well understood, started goofing around in Photoshop to see if I could mask and cut him out of the background.
The most challenging part was separating the animal from the sharp shadow. The illusion I intended would only work by deleting it.
Above is the concept and its execution. I have an extremely weird sense of … something.
📸As always, gratitude for looking in. I sincerely appreciate it! 😊👍
