The Nikon Coolpix camera series is perhaps the most underrated in the photography market. If a newbie searches best beginner cameras to buy, s/he would be pummeled by waves upon waves of different types, sizes, and formats of an array of camera companies.

S/he would be lost in this sea. Trying hard to find the camera s/he needs but, the storm will eventually trounce them. Unless s/he stumbles upon this article.

In this article, I will talk about why this camera series is best for beginners like you. I will not bore you with all the nerdy stuff as it is available on their website ( Nikon Coolpix website ) but I will encourage you to incline on the Coolpix P series as that is the one with amazing features: like tele focal capabilities and awesome macro focus at a very low price point — which you will learn further in this article.

There are mainly two cameras in this lineup

  1. Nikon P900
  2. Nikon P1000
  3. Nikon P950

I will not be able to tell you which camera to buy from these two as it comes down to personal preference in the end.

What is Nikon Coolpix Series?

The Nikon Coolpix series or as Nikon likes to call it ‘compact cameras’ is a series of cameras delineated for beginners in the photography world. So if you are new to photography this camera is the finest for you.

What makes Nikon Coolpix unique?

There are mainly two reasons for this

  1. When you buy a professional DSLR camera you need to buy lenses with it and they can be very expensive but the Coolpix P lineup does not require you to change the lens.
It has one powerful lens which does the work of all those lenses. It can lacerate down on work and help you focus on improving your skills. It also decreases the cost of the camera significantly ( the Nikon Coolpix P lineup costs around $729$— $824 which is much cheaper than a DSLR like the Nikon d3500 which can cost around $540 even that is without the lens and don’t even get me started on the lenses ).

2. The Nikon Coolpix series are known for their tele focal abilities. The cameras can zoom up to 125x. The macro function is also very unsung in this camera. It can focus from as close as 1 cm from the subject. You can go from a wide angle to a 125x zoom within seconds.

3. It has a very convivial user interface that doesn’t give anxiety. Many features like intervalometers and flashlights are built in. On other cameras, you’d have to buy them separately. Both its photography and videography sections are good.

4. It also has good battery life for a camera this size which would be good for a beginner. But for long photoshoots, I would recommend carrying a battery pack.

5. This camera is designed to be fast it is good at high-speed photography like drop, wildlife, bird, sports, etc.

6. These cameras also shoot in raw which can increase the details of the image. Then you can color-grade it later if you want.

7. Clarity of this NIKKOR lens is phenomenal. You can take crisp clear images.

Where do these cameras underperform

  1. Due to its smaller sensor size, I would not purpose using it in low light.
  2. The camera has a 1/2,3 CMOS sensor. This type of sensor is much nosier. I would advance printing the photos in a smaller size.

3. If you are planning to shoot a moving object and opt for the continuous shooting mode just know that it has slow processing speeds. You’d have to wait between shots for the camera to finish processing.

Conclusion

The Nikon Coolpix P camera lineup is a package in essence. It can jockey for position with high-end DSLRs in terms of clarity, speed and zoom. This camera series is adaptable to almost all photography genres like wildlife, sports, highspeed, moon, landscape, travel and many more.
The more I used this camera the more I envisaged how this camera makes things that would have been rather long drawn out and strenuous with a ordinary DSLR. I realized what an absolution this camera is for beginners.
