Quixote Foundation is finished with regular operations and the endowment is gone other than a few dollars set aside for administrative work. As Executive Director Emeritus, I’m excited to know we’re not marking the end of QF, but the continuation of its mission through people like you.

Don’t delete your www.quixotefoundation.org bookmark just yet: We’ve launched a new, perspective-bending website complete with a “retrospective exhibition” of Quixote Foundation’s work. Take a look — it’s full of joy and surprises you won’t want to miss. And our creative team is working on one last project, which we’ll announce before 2017 ends.

Lenore Hanisch and I are working with the National Center on Family Philanthropy throughout this year to share our experience spending everything. Read the first of our four blog posts on this topic, “Can Structure Set You Free?” Also, visit their website for our future essays and to view our recent webinar, “Spending Up: A Discussion on Perpetuity.”

View our webinar about spending everything.

Keep following us on Twitter too: NCFP is @familygiving, Lenore is @LenoreTilts and my stream is @JuneTilts. Our foundation handle @QuixoteTilts is officially retired but Keneta Anderson continues to write that stream as “Full Tilt,” with the new handle @FreeFairHealthy.

The office is closed now so there’s no physical address — please remove us if you notice we’re still on your mailing list. Erik, Lenore and I will receive email at our usual addresses between now and the end of the year.

A few folks have asked how we feel about Quixote Foundation “exiting stage left” at this point in U.S. history. As we reflect on our work, the simplest answer is “We feel excited.” Our spending model was driven by a belief that building networks and infrastructure up front would be the best way to multiply our foundation’s impact. Those accelerated investments, whether focused on media reform, reproductive rights, environmental equity, election integrity or racial justice, feel absolutely timely now. The part we played may have been tiny but it contributed to what we see today: so many leaders and movements deeply connected, trusting each other, accustomed to working together across issues, and profoundly ready to meet every new challenge ahead.

We are confident in that collective strength and the knowledge that each of us, and each of you, takes a little of our muse, “Don,” and a lot of “free, fair and healthy” forward from here. Thank you for being part of this extraordinary community.
