Let’s start this blog post with a brief history lesson. In ancient Greece democracies were governments that made it possible for citizens to vote and participate in state decision-making processes. It was in the year 507 B.C., that the Athenian leader Cleisthenes introduced demokratia, a system of political reforms also known as “rule by the people” (demos, “the people”, kratos, “power”). This was the first known democracy. Even though it survived for only two centuries, its invention by “The Father of Democracy” — Cleisthenes, was one of the most lasting contributions to the modern world by ancient Greece. The system of direct democracy as practiced in ancient Greece would lay the foundation for representative democracies across the world.

Since then democracy has been endorsed due to the proposition that it has benign effects on character. It has been noted that democracy tends to make members of society stand up for themselves. Subsequently, members of democratic societies are encouraged to be autonomous to a greater extent. It has also been argued that democracy tends to get individuals think more rationally and carefully than other forms of rule. In the end, some have proposed that democracy enhances the moral qualities of its members. When participating in decision-making, members have to listen to others, justify themselves to others, and they are forced to think by taking into account the interests of others.

Now that the beneficial characteristics of democracy have been exposed, it should be noted that one of Fulldive’s visions is to democratize the internet by utilizing social browsing…
