Because of the pandemic, we’ve had to change the way we talk to voters, but we knew early on that we wouldn’t be able to accomplish it alone. Thanks to the incredible flexibility, patience, passion, and motivation of the stellar volunteers all across the state, we were able to move our ground game online and reach new heights in educating and empowering voters!

Despite being physically distant, our volunteers have earned a special place in our hearts for the work they’ve done to mobilize Democrats across our state. We’ve asked each of our regional organizing teams to share a few words about their volunteers and why they’re so important to our mission. We hope the messages below brighten everyone’s day, just as much as they brighten ours.

Region 1

Randall is a powerhouse volunteer who beams in from the beautiful valleys of Apache County multiple times each week to make an impact for Democrats in Arizona. He is the kind of gentleman who defies partisanship ideologies, whose sense of humor is as rugged as the desert landscape in which he lives, and whose work ethic prompts one to believe that the American dream is alive and well. He is participating tirelessly to elect Mark Kelly and Joe Biden, and every organizer should have the privilege of working with a Randall of their own.

Region 2

Jon is an amazing volunteer! He’s always up for any changes you throw at him and knows how to be flexible in the best way. Any new task or responsibility you give him he always tries. Jon not only understands the urgency and importance of this election but is willing to commit himself and his community to fighting for victory in November. He is always willing to go above & beyond for a blue Arizona.

Region 3

My volunteer leaders come from different walks of life. They are teachers, small business owners, and students. Regardless, they all share the same passion, moving their communities forward! They all play a vital role on our team and dedicate their time week after week to better their neighborhoods and flip AZ blue. Without them, we would not be able to accomplish half of what we do now! I cannot wait to see what they accomplish in the next 8 weeks!

Region 4

Our amazing volunteer leaders give Region 4 life everyday. High schoolers like Sophia, Alejandro, Yemisi, and Riya, college students like Jodie, and other incredible volunteers like Theresa and Diane keep us going even when we think we can’t make another dial or schedule anymore shifts. They’re the reason this campaign has been so successful and they’re the reason we’ll win in November.

Region 5

We love Bill, for all that his commitment to electing Democrats up and down the ballot. On his organizers day off Bill steps up and trains fellow volunteers. During Weekend of Actions he leads training every shift. Thank you, Bill! Your leadership on this team has allowed us to bring new team members into the fold!

There is nothing that brings me more joy, or more confidence in our future, than the hard work at display by my volunteer team. My team puts their heart on the line each time they call, and this, this is the work we need to do to get it done. I love my team.

Region 6

Every day I find myself inspired by ordinary people willing to fight hard to create a better America. I have met countless volunteers who are eager to talk to voters about what’s at stake in this election. Even when conversations get tough, they recognize that we don’t get a second chance. To all my volunteers — thank you for being there for me and always being someone I could count on. We wouldn’t be able to do this hard work without you.

Region 7

It has been really incredible to get to know all of our amazing Region 7 Volunteer Leaders during our weekend hubs. We want to shout out our amazing Volunteer Leader Bob for being such a great phonebank captain. Bob has been an integral part of our team and has been up for any challenge we have given him. Thank you Bob for your dedication to electing Democrats up and down the ballot and always making us smile.

Region 8

Blanca has been one of the most consistent volunteers I have ever had. As a CHISPA representative, she’s shared how much she cares about climate change and how she is making sure that Democrats in Arizona are getting elected to make the changes necessary. She’s seen the way that Arizona has changed due to climate change and big corporations coming in and disturbing the natural wildlife. She is making calls not only for her children but also to ensure that they have a planet to live on in the future.

Blanca wants you to volunteer with us, join us for some Spanish phone calls! Sign up here.

Region 9

When I first started this job, I had no idea the impact the volunteers of Region 9 would have on me. Working side by side with them to elect politicians who will advance decency and humanity above all has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Every day I am inspired and awed by their dedication, sacrifice, and willingness to work together to build a better America than the one we found. Even during this time apart, the volunteers of western Maricopa county have shown what it means to be connected.

Region 10

We love our volunteers because they believe there is no room to be apathetic or distant this year. Our volunteers’ mantra is to leave nothing on the battlefield, and they are doing everything they can to end 2020 on a high note and restore decency and humility to the White House!

Region 11

Our volunteers are some of the most creative and enthusiastic friends we have. For many of us, they have become our adoptive family. They are our Twitter friends, TikTok stars (anything to register new voters, and to engage the youth vote). Their energy is contagious, and when we win on November 4th, it’ll be because they’ve chosen to take on a superhuman amount of responsibility and have persisted.

Region 12

Liz was one of the first names that I was directed to during my work in Yuma, and I understood why seconds into our first conversation. She’s driven and motivated, and she consistently wants to work both harder and smarter for her community. She heads a local organization (Indivisible) and she now leads a volunteer phonebank every Saturday for us in addition to her job for the census.

Region 13

One thing that makes our region special are our volunteer leaders. One that stands out the most is Vicki. She leads our phone-banking efforts and has trained dozens of volunteers. Her poise and positive attitude has allowed for our success in the region.

Region 14

Mary is one of the most thoughtful people we have had the chance to work with! Whether lending her phone banking expertise to other volunteers during her trainings or sharing stories about her time jamming out with Jerry Gracia, Mary is always to be a beacon of positivity. All of this is between her time making masks for her community and providing assistance to friends in need during this crisis. Mary means so much to our team!

Region 15

Over here in Region 15, we have the honor to work with this superstar volunteer, Marlana. It’s become a routine for our team to see Marlana every Saturday and Sunday. Marlana joining us every weekend has been the most stable part of this otherwise chaotic campaign, so we just want to say thank you for all of the hard work that you do and for giving us something to look forward to every Saturday and Sunday.

Region 16

I wanted to shout out my volunteer leader Rachael because of the creativity and dedication she has brought to this campaign. In August we worked together to organize a poetry and activism event that brought together Poetry on Roosevelt Row (her friends!) and our active volunteers. She also worked as a volunteer leader for every single shift of Fall Kickoff! I know I can always count on her for a great idea or a big commitment (like GOTV!).

As someone on our team put it: “All across [Arizona], phones are ringing with a volunteer on the other side. Volunteers who are caring for their children or grandchildren as we experiment with schooling totally virtually. Volunteers who may be teachers themselves, transferring years of material onto Google classroom. Volunteers who are not just working full-time, but full-time plus, fifty, sixty hours a week, and still looking forward to their two-hour weekend shift. Volunteers who have suffered from medical ailments, or whose family is suffering now. Volunteers who deserve better, and know it, too.”

Get involved

Thank you for fighting alongside us to ensure we create a better place for all those struggling and who deserve better! And if you’re someone reading along, inspired by this great team, and don’t want to miss out on the fun, sign up for a shift at MissionForArizona.com/Volunteer!
