“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” — Will Durant

Most people forget the above quote (which is misattributed to Aristotle) when they complain about not having the kind of life they want. They continue living without structure or order and somehow wonder why their lives aren’t any different.

If I had to guess, most successful people would tell you they owe most of their success to one simple fact:

They spent time and attention creating their own routine.

In other words, they made sure that excellence was intentionally built into their day rather than blindly hoping they would stumble across it sometime in the future.

Don’t fall into this trap. Start small and start now. Introduce small tasks (micro habits) that will eventually become your overall routine.

Do you want to become a writer? Start writing for 15–30 minutes each day. Want to run a marathon? Start each day by jogging one mile. Whatever it is you want to do, start with the basic unit and work your way up.

Create a daily routine and excellence will eventually become a habit.

Do you agree with my rant? Have you tried creating a daily habit? Share your thoughts in the comments below or on Twitter at @williamfrazr.
