I Just Got Feedback From My Editor

I just found my new drug.

No, it’s not so mind-altering pill you take before raving your face off late into the night and it’s not something mundane like booze or coffee.

I turned in my very rough, very early first draft of my book and have been watching Jason (my editor) leave edits and comments in the Google Doc.

Honestly? It’s better than crack.¹

As a writer, there is no better feeling than watching someone read what you wrote and then process their thoughts and feedback in real time, even if they are being paid to do so.

Sure, having someone critique your writing can be scary and nerve-racking, but I promise you the alternative is way worse (i.e. no one reading it at all).

At this point, I will welcome any and all feedback from someone who has spent their valuable time on something I’ve written because when you really think about it, they could’ve been doing literally anything else.²

After watching Jason share his thoughts in my Google Doc, reading his editorial letter that summarized everything, and chatting through everything on a call earlier today, here are just a few lessons I learned about my own writing:
