I’m Delivering the First Draft of My Book to My Editor

Welp, the time is finally here.

That moment in the writing process when every author is forced to face the music and do something that goes against their very nature:

Deliver.

That’s right — after three years, two false starts, and one deadline pushback, I’m turning in the first draft of my book to my editor…and I feel woefully underprepared.

I’m assuming it’s because this won’t be one of those smooth descents onto the runway where everything goes according to plan. Oh, no. In pure Billy Frazier fashion, it’s 12 years ago and I’m Travis Pastrana jumping out of a rickety plane without a parachute wearing nothing but gym shorts and socks.

The funny thing is I’m not usually this nervous when it comes to sharing my writing. Why would I be when I’ve been doing it online since 2014? Since then, I’ve faced everything from praise to hate and, by far the worst of all, silence.

The difference here is that this isn’t just another online post or piece of writing. This is THE piece of writing, the one I’ve been putting off for years and the one I won’t be able to move past until it’s out in the world.
