It’s Time for Early Readers!
Thoughts on sharing your work with others
Hey Fellow Fumblers!
It’s been a minute since I’ve shared an update on the book but that’s what happens when you hunker down and spend the last two months writing another draft with all of the feedback from your editor.
Now that it’s in a much better place, I’m finally ready to send it to my group of early readers. I can finally get feedback from real people I’m not paying to read my book.
When it came to rounding up my group of early readers, I asked myself a few simple questions:
- Who would be in my target market?
- Who has writing experience?
- Who would be willing to give me honest, critical feedback?
That’s really it.
I tend to overthink absolutely everything, so I wanted to keep this list of people simple which is why most of my readers are friends. However, there are a few professional contacts that I included because I did want more of an objective perspective.
When you’re looking for early readers (especially for a nonfiction book), it’s probably a good idea to cast a wider net in the beginning because everyone on your “dream team” will probably be unavailable, busy, or just plain not interested.
