Biden’s Afghanistan Withdrawal Reveals Pro-War Establishment
Somehow it was ‘Sleepy Joe’ who woke everyone up
The U.S. has fully withdrawn from the nearly two-decade mission in Afghanistan. Unfortunately for President Joe Biden, carrying out the departure of U.S. forces from Afghanistan has tarnished his reputation among the establishment entities that had previously held almost unwavering support for him.
The decision to withdraw from Afghanistan reveals more about the establishment than it does about President Biden’s decision-making process. That process boils down to the initial May 1st deadline negotiated in Doha, a protraction of the withdrawal process by the Biden administration past the negotiated deadline, the steady departure of most U.S. military forces in the mid-summer, and the hastened withdrawal of coalition forces with the collapse of the Afghan government and control of the country passing to the Taliban. All things considered, even with the images of desperate Afghans trying to flee via western aircraft and the terrorist attack on the evacuations outside of the Kabul airport claimed by the Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP), this has been as close to a best-case scenario for U.S. and coalition allies that could have been hoped for given the Taliban control all around.
