5 things you can do with the Blok on Blok smartphone
While working to pioneer blockchain-based payments and communications, we have also launched the prototype of Blok On Blok (BOB), the world’s first blockchain-based smartphone providing a gateway to the decentralized Web.
Based on Android 9.0, the device runs on our new Function X protocol — the planet’s first blockchain-based, decentralized Internet ecosystem with five important components, an operating system, a public blockchain, FXTP, a docker and IPFS.
So, why BOB? Here are the five game-changing aspects you should know about.
1. Regain control of your data
If you have watched Netflix’s documentary film, “the Great Hack,” you may find out the stunning truth that companies have been harvesting the personal data of millions of peoples’ Facebook profiles without their consent and use it for microtargeted political campaigns.
In contrast to centralized service providers who own customers’ data, BOB safeguards the data by encrypting it and providing its owner with a private key to access it. In other words, you are now the only one in control of your data.
The same technology Bitcoin uses to protect monetary transactions is used to safeguard the privacy of BOB messaging. When you first create your BOB identity, you create one just like you would with a Bitcoin or Ethereum wallet. This means the identity and content you’ve created and shared will always be kept safe with your private key.
2. Easy access to the decentralized gateway
BOB takes convenience — and creativity — to a whole new level by enabling you to switch between the Function X blockchain and traditional mode. Just toggle to the blockchain mode and you can make calls, send messages and transfer data without the need for a centralized carrier.
Alternatively, if you don’t necessarily have need to protect your data and are doing something simple like ordering a pizza, you can use your chosen mobile network to do so. Switching modes is even faster than shuffling apps on your phone.
3. Fuel the DApps revolution
Developers are allowed to code DApps as they would under the Android system and people will test them for the first time. One example of a BOB’s DApp in the works is a “DUber-like” taxi protocol which uses smart contracts to decentralize data. It allows users to bid for the best trip by calling several providers simultaneously, giving them a chance to offer consumers the best available price in real-time.
What DApps are doing is taking data and decentralizing it for anyone who wants to access it in a secure and open-source environment. We are opening a up a battle field for different providers to compete on the BOB phone.
4. Contribute to the ‘Blockchain Internet’
The biggest contribution of the BOB is that it allows you to access and create content on the decentralized or as we like to put it, “Blockchain Internet”.
The system uses the FXTP to enable you to ride the new era of the Internet where every app, image, data, bit and byte is expected to thrive free of data-server monopolies.
In addition, BOB will allow you to mine tokens by helping support Function X transactions. You as a BOB holder can help verify data transmission, and those who are hosting nodes on the BOB or Function X by verifying transactions.
As uptake increases, Function X will eventually have up to seven levels of verification, depending on how sensitive or important messages are. The network will choose ”signers” or verifiers randomly depending on their hardware’s computational and data storage power.
5. Tackle #fakenews
BOB can also help you identify the original source of the information. For example, if a photographer witnessed the Notre Dame fire and shared a picture of it through his BOB, the image will contain his unique [encrypted] signature. In this way, he can prove he was the first person who took the photo to anyone interested in tracing its authenticity.
Ultimately, our mission is to create a phone that can replicate all of Android operating system’s potential and enable users to use their favorite services such as Facebook without worrying about their data, images or news being compromised.
