I can’t quite believe it’s now week five of the Funding Circle TA blog post! In this week’s post, we will be talking about one of the most reliable and regular things I enjoy about working at Funding Circle.
Two posts ago, you’ll have read about our values list, one of which is Be Open. It’s something we are really good at here, which is communicating things to our employees in that exact manner.
I’m going to talk about our ‘Gatherings’. I won’t claim that we are unique in this, but I will say this is something that doesn’t happen everywhere, and when it does it can be a bit surface level.
As a company that has grown a lot, it’s easy to lose a lot of your core culture, but after being here for 5 years — exactly to this day(!), I can say that we’ve done well to maintain that.
How it works: Bi-monthly on Thursday morning’s, the whole company will gather, be that in person or online. Our business leaders per department will run through with an honest reflection of the goal they had for that month and then the result of it along with some context as to why things happened, good or bad. There are also free snacks, which is never a bad thing…
Other times are an opportunity for a team that has come up with an impressive new feature or process to run through how and why they have done something, as well as how it will help us. I find this such a great way to give credit to the people behind these successes where they get praised for the hard work they have put in.
On top of all of this, we have a very public channel where we can ‘Ask the LT’, which essentially allows anyone to ask anything that’s been on their mind to our Leadership team. In my experience, this gets answered honestly and directly, but also allows people to get an answer from those that make the decisions here and it really fosters openness, allowing everyone to have a voice.
It’s one of many really great ways of taking the company through what’s going on and makes you really feel part of the journey of growth and helping small businesses get the funding they need to win.
