From your experience what’s the best thing about Funding Circle?

This is a question I have been asked at least once or twice a week for the last 2 years. Future Circlers are always interested to learn more about our culture in that initial first call with the business.

While I feel confident in how my response to that question reflects my own experience, I know there is no way to answer in a way that encompasses the true diversity of thought of our Circlers. After all it’s only my individual opinion and the best thing about organisational culture is that it is all of our differences in experience, both past and present that are the makeup of that.

The more I thought about it, the more I wondered how differently I answer that in interviews to other Circlers across the business. And then, well, I couldn’t help but ask the question far and wide which we’ll delve into more in this week’s edition of the Talent Takeover!

But first, I’ll tell you my answer to that question.

In short, from day 1 at FC I have felt as though my voice is heard and my opinion is valued.

Coming from a background in recruitment agencies where pretty often your clients relationships consist of: 1) They tell you what they want, 2) You go away and find it.

Do they consider your feedback when it comes to salary, interview process or your knowledge on the market conditions? Sometimes. But mostly not.

That couldn’t be more different to Talent Partnering at Funding Circle. The environment encourages cross functional teamwork and with that we respect and value the knowledge of those we work with. Noone claims to know more than the other and everyone is given an opportunity to be heard. We make decisions together, we go to market, we share feedback, and we iterate until ultimately we make the hire. Which is a pretty great best bit if you ask me.

Now to share what some of my fellow Circlers have to say…

Viktorija Jusko — Software Engineer — 3 years, 8 months

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a part of Funding Circle lies in its people. Specifically, there is an abundance of generosity in the willingness of individuals to invest their time and expertise, fostering a culture where assistance is readily extended irrespective of prior interactions or seniority. Furthermore, I deeply value the absence of micromanagement within the organization. There exists an unspoken consensus that each individual possesses their own unique approach to tasks, there’s mutual respect and trust, underpinned by the unwavering belief in the capacity of all to perform at their best.

Sugam Roka — FlexiPay Account Executive — 1 year, 1 month

Personally for me, working in Funding Circle has been an absolute pleasure. Firstly our innovation in products is fast, dynamic & constantly evolving. As I work in the FlexiPay department, which is our latest product, I have been able to see the huge change in FlexiPay. When I started, FlexiPay was at its beginning stage where we were just looking to get more customers, however now it has evolved into a charge card & a mobile app within just a year!

The company culture here is also fantastic here as there are always different events, socials and workshops. For example, I loved the Black History social event in October held by Uyoissa (Marketplace Sales Manager). We got to try delicious African food, Afro- music & Afro Dances. As a Nepalese native, this exposed me to a whole new culture!

Alexia Perez-Rosell — Marketplace Operations Manager — 6 years, 1 month

The best thing about Funding Circle is definitely the people. It’s motivating to work alongside such inspiring people who push and support you to develop.

Tom Frank — Talent Acquisition Partner — 1 year, 11 months

When Garbanzo’s is on JustEat*!

*One of our Circler benefits is a lunch subsidy via JustEat for Business. We get the pleasure of choosing from delicious and carefully selected vendors (thanks to our wonderful Workplace Experience Manager, Kate Turgoose) that change everyday.

Matt Barker — Account Manager, Marketplace — 4 years

The best thing about working at Funding Circle for me is the people. Everyone has a similar mission to work hard and drive for success, which as a result massively helps the businesses we work with. The social side is also really good, as we are based in a great central London location.

Antigoni Bochoridi — Senior Data Product Manager — 1 year, 6 months

The best thing about Funding Circle is the community of brilliant and knowledgeable people. It’s great to be part of a team that is innovative and supportive of new ideas. We don’t shy away from a challenge and always have each other’s backs!

James Coombs — Head of Digital — 5 years, 11 months

I’ve been at Funding Circle for nearly 6 years, the longest I’ve stayed at a company during my career. I think this is testament to not only the great, smart, humble people I work with, but also the countless opportunities that are on offer. I’ve been fortunate enough to be promoted twice, and continue to want to grow my career here. If you’re eager to take responsibility, find new ways of doing things and work with some fantastic people, Funding Circle very well may be the place for you!

Julian Zammit — Senior Engineer — 1 year, 5 months

One of the best things I’ve found at FC is a focus on collaboration and growth. Despite being part of one team, it’s so easy, encouraged even, to reach out to others to learn and better shape our ideas. The fact that time and learning resources are made available to all is also a great plus which, to me, shows a willingness to further support our careers.

Alicja Opiela — Senior Fraud Analyst — 4 years, 11 months

Funding Circle is a place which nourishes growth and the pursuit of more. They have allowed me to develop over the years and champion me to keep learning.

Genn Maravolo — Strategy & Commercial Manager, Flexipay — 1 year 3 months

At Funding Circle, our vibe is unbeatable. Our diverse crew means you’ll always find your tribe here. Since jumping on board, I’ve picked up cycling (seriously, it’s how we roll to work…), joined our awesome touch rugby squad (go FC Ballers!), reignited my love for golf (maybe a tad too much), and even got hooked on chess (my iPhone screen bears witness, it’s literally burnt into my screen). Funding Circle isn’t just a job; it’s a wild ride where you choose your own adventure. Come join us and let’s make some memories!

Jack Templeman — Account Manager — 2 years, 5 months

I have been at Funding Circle now for over 2 years and since the very beginning of my journey, the best thing about Funding Circle that attracted me is the growth opportunities in the business. I understood very quickly that there are wider opportunities to develop your career with the help of an amazing management team. Finally and most importantly, the people at Funding Circle make the business so unique with individuals from various backgrounds, ages and cultures. From day one, this gave me a sense of belonging.

As always please do check out our careers site for current vacancies or reach out to one of our lovely TA Partners for a chat if you’d like to join the team!
