[Fun Fam Taiwan] Scott Huang — QA Engineer

FunNow APP及網站的新功能正式上線前,為產品做最後把關、擔任使用者體驗前線部隊的就是品質管理(Quality Assurance)團隊了。身為FunNow第一位品管工程師的Scott,工作上心思細膩,會注意到容易被忽略的小細節,卻也不喜歡太嚴肅的工作氣氛,總是扮演團隊中開心果的角色呢!有過台廠、美商、新創公司等不同產業經歷的Scott,逐步擴大工作領域外,也找到適合自己的組織文化:自由自律、尊重專業、重視反饋,而他也喜愛享受都市的娛樂生活,不論是團隊文化或產品面向都與FunNow不謀而合。

檢視過往經驗,曾有過工作範圍侷限、缺少發揮空間的困擾,也曾碰過團隊成員互相怪罪、推卸責任,來到FunNow後,積極朝共同目標衝刺的精神令Scott相當驚嘆,「我從來沒有遇過開發團隊這麼有默契又團結,出了錯大家搶著解決,這不是很難得、很振奮人心嗎?」Scott坦言,剛進FunNow時曾經有防禦心態,擔心像過去一樣成為被指責的對象,但後來他發現團隊夥伴溝通直接、共同承擔掌聲與責任,再加上未來仍有無限發展可能,都讓Scott覺得這裡是個讓他願意長久努力的地方。

#勇於挑戰

要接下公司內從未有過的職務是相當需要勇氣的,Scott卻說:「當初聽到FunNow沒有QA,讓我非常期待又興奮。」僅有12個人的小團隊、所有基礎建設都要自己來,Scott卻沒有多加猶豫就決定加入,原因就在於從零到一的挑戰性很高,又有很大的發展空間。雖然初期比較辛苦、也曾有過衝突,但夥伴們都很願意聽取Scott的專業建議,也都和他一樣喜愛接觸新的技術與商業模式,對不同挑戰都抱持樂觀態度,使Scott能盡情與各路高手們一同打造頂尖團隊。

#吹毛求疵

對Scott來說,在FunNow擔任品管工程師不僅是做測試,更會積極地想把產品做到無懈可擊。他舉例,有些功能雖然現在目前用不到,但自己會希望既然做了、就做到完美,既能預先為未來做準備,也能避免使用上可能出現的錯誤。雖然有時會被認為有點鑽牛角尖,不過當看到產品穩定性逐漸提高,也有越來越多使用者,Scott就能感受到自己展現了QA的價值、獲得相當大的成就感。

#時間管理大師

身為FunNower,每個人都不能只是執行任務的「worker」,更要把自己看做「Manager」,在品管團隊更是如此。當不同產品上線時間強碰,Scott就需要判斷工作的優先順序、依照急迫性規劃測試的排程,並按照計畫完成進度;而身為時間管理大師的Scott也很喜歡FunNow彈性上下班的制度,讓他能更靈活地安排時間,工作之餘也能和家人享受快樂的親子時光。未來,也期待透過自我管理與團隊管理,為FunNow創造更穩定、優秀的產品品質。

Before the new features of the FunNow app and website are officially launched, it is the Quality Assurance team that serves as the final gatekeeper for the product and the frontline of user experience. Scott ,the first QA engineer at FunNow, is careful at work and always notices details that are easily ignored. However, he does not like to work in a serious atmosphere. He always plays the role of a barrel of laughs in the team! With the experiences in different industries such as local companies, global companies, and start-up companies, Scott has gradually expanded his work area and found a company culture that suits him: freedom and self-discipline, respect for professionalism, value feedback. His love of urban entertainment life also corresponds to the team’s culture and product orientation of FunNow.

In his past experiences, Scott had been troubled by the limited scope of work and the lack of room to carry out. He also encountered team members blaming each other and passing the buck. Joined FunNow, Scott was amazed at the spirit of moving forward to the same goal. “I’ve never seen a development team have such great chemistry and good teamwork, and when something goes wrong, everyone scrambles to solve it, isn’t it rare and inspiring?” Scott admits that he was defensive when he first joined FunNow, worried about being the target of criticism as he had been in the past. #Daring to challenge

It takes a lot of courage to take up a whole new occupation in a company. Scott says, “When I first heard that there is no QA engineer at FunNow, it made me really excited.” Although there were only 12 people in the team, which means you need to deal with everything by yourself, Scott decided to join without hesitation due to the high challenge of starting from scratch and great room for development. In the beginning, despite the tough time and conflicts, Scott’s partners were willing to listen to his professional suggestions. Same as Scott, they all love to embrace new technologies and business models, to be optimistic about different challenges. Therefore, Scott can devote himself to this top team with his excellent members.

#Nitpicky is not a bad thing

As far as Scott is concerned, being a QA engineer at FunNow is not only about product testing, but about dedicating to making products perfect. For example, some features of FunNow app may not function now but he wants to make them perfect so that he can prepare for the future and avoid possible errors in use. Despite sometimes being considered to be hair-splitting, Scott feels a great sense of accomplishment when the product is becoming much more stable and there are more and more users starting registering on FunNow.

#Becoming a Master of Time Management

As a FunNower, everyone is not just a “worker” who only executes tasks but also sees himself/herself as a “manager” especially in the Quality Assurance team. When the new functions release time conflicts take place, Scott needs to arrange the priority of the tasks and plan the testing schedule by urgency to finish the work accordingly. Moreover, as a master of time management, Scott likes FunNow’s flexible working hours, which allows him to schedule his time more flexibly and enjoy a happy parent-child time with his family in spare time. In the future, he expects to create more stable and excellent product quality for FunNow through self-management and team-management.
