“Are we having a good day, Max?” Dr. Jermain Shepard asked.
Dr. Shepard is renowned for his groundbreaking research in the field of dog-human psychology. Max is a Manmutt, a new hybrid dog breed, specifically a Golden Retriever mixed with human DNA.
“Woof,” Max responded.
“That didn’t sound like you were happy. Are you having trouble at home? Is it because of that cat they adopted recently? The brown and white tabby with the cute pink nose?”
“Grrrr!” Max appeared visibly upset, his fur ruffled, and his eyes narrowed to mere slits.
“I see,” Dr. Shepard remarked, jotting down notes on his pad.
“And Max, we discussed climbing onto my lap.”
“Woof?”
“Yes, the couch is fine.”
Max leaped onto the couch and, after circling a few times, settled down and looked up at Dr. Shepard with sad eyes.
“About the cat,” Dr. Shepard continued, “sometimes a new friend can cause jealousy issues. I felt jealous too when I discovered my wife brought another man into the house while I was at work.”
