Editor’s note

This is what makes for a resilient and thriving community. And we have seen Calgary’s resilience in action. From flood disaster to economic recession, we have what it takes to dig down, help others, create new opportunities and find our way through adversity. But it doesn’t end there. As we go out into our neighbourhoods and take part in conversations, we discover the many ways that Calgary is thriving too.

Calgary’s nonprofit sector is helping build resilient and thriving communities.

In this issue of Further, we share the stories of three organizations that are thinking and working in new ways. They are improving the lives of children, the vulnerable and the marginalized. They are making a difference in families, community agencies, landfills, green spaces and back alleys across the city. You’ll see that change is possible when someone embraces a vision and dares to reshape an established system.

Calgary is our home; it’s the place where we live, work, volunteer and play. I hope these pages inspire you, your family and your organization as we work together to make our community thrive.
