#29DaysOfBlackLoveSongs: Day 22

Today’s Black Love Song: Louie Vega Starring Jocelyn Brown — You Are Everything
It’s now Day 22 of the FuseBox Radio’s Black History Month 2016#29DaysofBlackLoveSongs online audio celebration, where I select and share various tunes that I feel express all sorts of Black Love — self-love, platonic love, romantic love, love for community, etc. — from various music genres repping the Black Diaspora.
Today’s song of choice is “You Are Everything” by Little Louie Vega &Jocelyn Brown Music.
People can love all types of things — people, animals, nature, music, dance, etc.
For a decent amount of folks, a lot of that feeling of love, care and respect is tied into their particular brand of spirituality.
Whether you’re a particular believer of a faith/religion/way of life, etc. or not, I think that most people can agree that good music is good music is good music.
If you hear a tune from someone of a particular faith who knows not only how to put together a song but has skills, genuine emotion behind it and great production to help make their message go down nicely — ESPECIALLY if it’s actually about loving others and the world at large — you may not become an insta-convert, but one can give some respect to an artist’s craft and what keeps them grounded, driven & set to get into each and every day.
This relatively new tune (it only dropped a few months ago as a single and will be on the upcoming “Louie Vega Starring” album being released around the end of this month) is basically like that for me.
“You Are Everything” is a really fantastic piece of lush, high energy gospel House music that gives love to the “call and response” tradition of Black American Christian Gospel music between Jocelyn Brown’s lead vocals and the chorus that literally closes out with a straight up instrumental break of organ and drums plus literal testimony full of joy and rapture about her faith in a Higher Power.
Simply put, this joint goes hard, whether you want to drop some money in the collection plate during the service or not.
If nothing else after getting what’s essentially 11 minutes of the Black church (well, at least from when I grew up in it back in the day) in one of it’s best creative forms, it should make you believe in great dance music.
Hope that folks enjoy this music selection and the others that will be on deck through the month of February under this hashtag, explore more tunes from these artists we put out there, share the music and more!
