After the Halloween, some international students are curious about some firework every night in the beginning of the November. In fact, they also enjoying the firework to celebrate but it quite different than Firework show in China. What is the special meanings of the Bonfire Night? Are they any interesting events through this hundreds year? Any key words to guide you to understand.

After the Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603, James become a King of England, with the hope of the Queen Elizabeth I. “Guy Fawkes”

One of the members in this group called “Guy Fawkes” is the members of the English Catholics, He attempted to blow up the Jame I English Parliament, He against the religious persecution of King Jame I and then plan Gunpowder Plot. That is why Bonfire Night also have it another name — Guy Fawkes Night.

He had a way with people, and convinced a number of his impressionable friends to go along with the murderous plan which would later be known as the Gunpowder Plot. Even as problems with his plot later arose and some members expressed doubt, Catesby remained convinced that violent action was the only way forward.

Since the Jame became King of England, he thought the King was less tolerant of Catholicism than his follower hoped, so he planned to invited the Catholics members, including the Guy Fawkes and other seven members. But they didn’t work together in the “Catesby” group in the past, they fought in the Netherlands and in Spain.

The precise date on which he set events in motion is unknown, but it is likely that he first had the idea early in 1604.

Even as problems with his plot later arose and some members expressed doubt, Catesby remained convinced that violent action was the only way forward.

Thinking of the Fawkes, 20 barrels of gunpowder were brought in at first, followed by 16 more on 20 July. However, the ever-present threat of the plague on 28 July had delayed the opening of Parliament until Tuesday, 5 November.

When the Guy Fawkes had set up the barrels, Some of the Members afraid that is explosion would be present fellow Catholics in the parliament, Lord Monteagle received an anonymous letter warning him to stay away. After the investigation, he show the letter to the King Jame I. The King ordered Sir Thomas Knyvet to conduct a search of the cellars underneath Parliament, which he did in the early hours of 5 November. After the Midnight, Guy Fawkes was arrested in the cellar.


To celebrate the Terrorism was frustrated, people put dry straw and newspapers in the clothes to make a dummy Guy Fawkes and it burn it. This event reminds all the British people do not forget the history. Are you clear right now?
