Collect experiences, not things
Forget buying a house, getting your own car or purchasing a brand new TV. According to Airbnb’s survey, Millennials today prefer to spend their earnings on travelling the globe rather than on buying material goods. Researches show that Millennials travel more than any other generation. By United Nations estimates, nearly 200 million international travellers belong to the Millennial generation.
But why do Millennials love traveling so much? It probably has a lot to do with their passionate longing for adventure, authentic experiences and exploration of the unknown. Millennials are always on the search for meaningful adventures off the beaten path that will open their minds and possibly change their lives. They crave authenticity and want to feel immersed in the destination they are visiting, which is why “to live like a local” is an experience they love above all else.
According to FutureCast, Millennials spend around 200$bn on travel each year. In the annual study by Allied Market Research in 2016, it was estimated that by 2022, online travel will be worth remarkable $1,091 billion!
Mostly planning their travel online, Millennials gather advice and recommendations on best accommodations, restaurants, bars and activities from their closest ones, peers and other fellow travellers. Studies show that 95% of travellers read reviews before booking accommodation and 84% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations from a friend or a family member.
