One of the most common misconceptions about the Generation X is the belief that they do not comprehend the digital world as well as the younger generations do and are consequently not nearly as interested in everything it has to offer. While it is true that Millennials grew up alongside internet technology, it was actually the Generation X who created the foundation on which the whole digital world lies today. From staying connected to the rest of the world, having instant access to all desired information, to all other revolutionary features which internet technology has to offer, it was Gen Xers who started discovering it all — meaning that staying connected and informed while working, travelling or relaxing is just as important to them as it is to the digitally savvy Millennials. According to IPSOS report, 74% of Gen Xers think that smartphones are essential when travelling, confirming the significant place technology holds in all aspects of their lives. In fact, research shows that Gen Xers, with an average of almost 7 hours per week, spend just as much time on social media as their younger generation.

With most Gen Xers having school-aged children, aging parents and full-time jobs, they lead a very busy lifestyles, which means that for them travelling often means short trips and weekend getaways where they can get a quick break from their everyday responsibilities. In need of rest and relaxation, Gen Xers’ most popular getaway destinations are beach vacations and wellness travel, where they can refresh, recharge and reconnect. While enjoying their travel getaway, technology must meet their need to stay connected and informed as well as relaxed and carefree, which is why a direct connection to hotel staff for ensuring everything goes smoothly along with a constant hotel Wi-Fi connection, enabling them to stay in touch with their closest ones and look for nearby places offering drinks, food or fun activities are definitely necessities they are not willing to vacation without.

Being the responsible adults they are, Gen Xers love to plan their travel trips even up to more than 6 months ahead, reading reviews and other relevant content to make an informed decision about where to go and what to do on their next travel getaway. They mostly do their research online, which is also where they mostly book their trips — according to studies, 85% of Gen X travellers read travel reviews and 82% book their trips online. While doing their research, Gen Xers know better than to trust just any source of information and rely heavily on the recommendations from their community, the people they are close to and trust most.

Soon enough, everything Gen Xers desire from technology while travelling will come to be in the first blockchain travel review platform Futourist — a platform, which will enable users to instantly get the most reliable information on all things travel by creating a strong and trustworthy community of people from all generations, each getting most out of their experience by being able to instantly consume and share information, get rewarded for their contributions, help each other out in living their lives to the fullest, and at the same time create a better world together.
