This years Consensus event can be described in one word — Scaling. From less than 1,500 attendees in November to more than 8,500 last week in same city, it is amazing to see how blockchain community is evolving and getting bigger. Coindesk’s Consensus has offered us amazing program, speakers and projects. It is my belief that maturity phase of blockchain project is yet to come, but I feel we are on a good track.

Registration queue at Consensus 2018

To confirm my previous statement, I was extremely optimistic to see that companies from “old world” are joining the blockchain field and I was happy to visit their booths and talk with them. Futourist was presented to Deloitte and IBM in order to get their feedback. I was particularly impressed by IBM development in blockchain space. The one thing that stood out was their ZKP (zero knowledge proof) build on top of Hyperledger Fabric. ZKP is anonymity layer on blockchain, which deals with privacy issues—a very important topic nowadays with GDPR just around the corner.

IBM Zero Knowledge Proof

With completed funding phase of our project, we had more time to discuss possible partnerships and meet other projects from similar space. There were some interesting, complimentary projects we could work with in the future, but more information will come when anything is official.

Consensus panel discussion

Agenda

Agenda was really rich and broad this year — from jurisdiction panels, to content and general news about blockchain, everyone could get something for themselves.

One of the most interesting panels for us was definetly Content monetisation, where Ned Scott (Steemit), Ryan Shea (Blockctack) and Adi Sideman (YouNow) were talking about possibilities of blockchain on content field. Maybe just a fun fact to add here — China has named Steem (which, for you who do not know, is similar to Reddit on blockchain) as second Best in Crypto Class. You can read article here.

Talking with Jaxx and meeting Anthony Di Iorio

At Consensus, I spoke with representatives of Jaxx and had a chance to meet Anthony Di Iorio, co-founder of Ethereum project and Founder and CEO of Jaxx & Decentral. He is one of the most influential people in blockchain space so it was a great opportunity to talk about our project and receive valuable feedback from him.

Conclusion

Although Consensus was a bit overcrowded this year, I must say that we had a really pleasant time in New York, made a lot of new connections and discovered some impressive technology progress. There were a lot of Slovenian project present, confirming Slovenia is one of the leading countries in blockchain space. Also, a group of ’’protesters’’ played a little trick on us with their march agains the Bitcoin :)

As I said at the beginning, blockchain space is yet to reach the maturity phase, but I believe we are getting there!
