Power to the people
In the beginning of this year, all video content creators were faced with some gut-wrenching news — YouTube issued demanding new regulations, under which a content creator now first has to reach 1,000 subscribers and get 4,000 watch hours in just one year in order to be eligible to start gaining any revenue from their channel. As if starting on the path as a content creator wasn’t already troublesome enough before, it is now becoming close to impossible for especially not so known content creators to even begin monetizing their shared content.
May the odds be ever in your favour
YouTube’s policy change clearly showed that when it comes to getting paid for their shared content, present-time content creators are left to the mercy of social media platforms, which sadly only recognize the value of the biggest and the most influential few, hanging all others out to dry. But although most platforms act as if small-sized content creators aren’t worth much, nothing could be further from the truth. Fact of the matter is, the long tail of not so well-known content creators actually represents the majority of content contributions to social media platforms, meaning that they play a key role in keeping the platforms up and running, consequently enabling them to make staggering profits — although exact numbers are not available for public, the fact that YouTube is currently estimated to be worth around $160 billion speaks for itself.
What regulations aimed towards small content creators also ignore to acknowledge is the fact that all of today’s best, biggest and most influential content creators were once small and insignificant. By not giving them a real chance to slowly build their way up to the top, they are robbing them of the opportunity to truly express themselves and present their possibly incredibly unique and meaningful content. Because of such small interest in helping out small-scaled content creators as they try to make their first steps towards a thriving career, they are often left to the luck of the draw; while some manage to find resources that help them on their way up, most of them, despite possibly creating just as amazing content, are not of such luck and never get the chance to make it out in this world as an established content creator.
The times they are a-changin’
The problem with which most content creators are faced today is the fact that current social media platforms present the only way for content creators to even have a chance of getting rewarded for their content. However, epic changes are afoot — as people are starting to reclaim their power, the time has come for a shift from centralized networks, where the few on the top hold all the cards, to decentralized networks, where everybody always gets what they deserve and nobody is left behind.
These new times call for a new platform — Futourist is coming to revolutionize the content industry by implementing a system where every contribution will always be fairly rewarded, no matter how well established or not the creator of the content already is. With Futourist, the focus will be shifted from vague to quality and meaningful content, making the first step towards restoring the balance of wealth distribution between businesses, big-shot content creators and small-sized content creators.
