Imagine backpacking through New Zealand, enjoying the mesmerizing scenery, listening to the sound of waves crashing against cliffs, meeting new people, discovering their unique culture and capturing all these wondrous experiences with your phone or camera. Now, the crucial question: Do you share all these captured moments with your family, friends and all fellow travellers or do you only keep them for yourself? If you are a sharing loving Millennial like me, the answer to this is a no-brainer. Being connected to others at all times, interacting with them and sharing our life’s experiences in real-time is when we feel most alive after all.

Capturing special moments and sharing them with the world via social media has become an imperative part of life. People are shooting and sharing more photos and videos than ever before. According to Deloitte Global estimates, an astonishing number of 2.5 trillion digital photos were shared or stored online in 2016 alone. The numbers are just as staggering in video sharing, where according to Cisco a million minutes of video content will cross the network every second by 2021.

Millennials are more likely to share videos than any other type of online content, which doesn’t come as a big surprise considering the fact that videos have everything this digitally native generation craves the most: they are personally meaningful, creative, interactive, experiential and highly captivating. Millennials love watching and sharing videos as much as they enjoy creating them. Documenting and sharing on social media actually makes their experiences that much more valuable and memorable.

With sharing on social media turning into a new lifestyle trend, it has become an integral part of ones travel experience. Millennials feel like it’s almost their responsibility to post reviews for the benefit of other travellers. According to Expedia’s study, 56% of Millennials have posted a photo or video of their travel experience on social media during their trip in 2016.

So, more than 1 in 2 Millennials are already doing all the hard work only from the goodness of their hearts. Isn’t it about time they get rewarded for it? Well, here is where Futourist comes to play.
