FUTRSPRT Interview Series presents conversations with some of the sharpest minds in sports tech. Leaving no angle of competition or fan experience unscathed FUTRSPRT showcases those creating the future of sports right before our eyes.
FUTRSPRT’s Matt Bowen chatted with SyncThink Chief Clinical Officer Scott Anderson about the futuristic advancements the company is making for athletes and mental health as a whole.

SyncThink Chief Clinical Officer Scott Anderson didn’t begin with the company, but he’s been a fan of SyncThink since he first discovered it.
Anderson spent a decade within the Sports Medicine program at Stanford. He’s also served as Chair, Sports Medicine Committee for the Pac-12 Conference and as a Medical Observer for the NFL. While working on the optimization of athletic performance and injury prevention Anderson was exposed to SyncThink via its EYE-SYNC technology through Dr. Jamshid Gajar at the Stanford Concussion and Brain Performance Center. Dr. Gajar conducted research collaboration with Anderson on campus and had also built technology for the Department of Defense.
Dr. Ghajar asked Anderson to vet the technology. It was then that Anderson realized the real opportunity the tech could bring to the market.
“I was amazed at the effectiveness and reliability”, says Anderson when describing his initial reaction to SyncThink.
“It’s the first tech I came across that I was really blown away by. We built a room on campus and labeled “Brain Performance”, testing athletes. Before too long we had a cult-like following amongst athletes.”
SyncThink has since gone through clinical trials and has received FDA Approval. That fact by itself is astounding — this technology isn’t pseudo-science — it’s proven.
In 2017 Anderson left Stanford to join the company in a full-time role, focusing on commercial use.
“I saw SyncThink as helping medical and performance professionals everywhere — from elite sports teams to medical leaders who focus on disease. I have the clinical expertise and can evangelize the tech.”
What is SyncThink Today?
“SyncThink is a neurotech company that develops minimally invasive eye-tracking tech/software to support medical professionals in helping patients with brain health conditioning.”
What Are Some Pleasant Surprises You’ve Come Across @ SyncThink?
“The pace at which hardware is evolving is really helping SyncThink advance it’s technology. Brain health in the future can be done individually on the couch”, says Anderson.
“Patient feedback has been the best — it’s really rewarding. People are learning why they are the way they are, what is wrong, and how to fix it.”
As humans, we all have our own unique quirks — the things that make us tick. To truly identify and understand the “why” within ourselves would be priceless. Throughout this conversation, FUTRSPRT could sense SyncThink is onto something bigger than sports — it’s discovering ways to find true mental health. Thanks to SyncThink’s vision everyone will soon reap the benefits of high-class mental health regardless of profession, race, sex, creed, nationality, or wealth.
Tell Us About Your Recent Collaboration w/ Magic Leap
“This is a next-gen platform driven by AR/spatial computing. This opens up the world to new types of content/analysis when it comes to brain health and performance. Training, therapy, assessment, and the rate of improvement will all be improved because of this technology.”
“In the future, AR will flip the script on immersive tech and health care improvements. Beyond that, looking at the consumer approach, people will have the ability to do all of this[mental health checkups] with their preexisting devices[watches, screens].”
What Anderson is saying is really pushing the boundaries of the future. His words almost seem utopian — but they are rooted in the reality that SyncThink is building.
What are some of the Things You Personally Assist the NFL with?
“As a gameday medical observer, my job is to identify signs a player has suffered an injury during a game. I sit in a private booth with a support team and watch the game live and utilize various feed replays at different angles to determine the extent of player injury.”
“I have the ability to communicate down to the sidelines of each team’s respective medical staff to explain suspicious incidents to them directly and notify them of players that require a medical evaluation. I also have the ability to communicate directly with the head official on-field to stop the game if there appears to be a player who is injured and may need to be removed before play continues.”
With the NFL Helmet Challenge coming up is SyncThink involved?
“No, we do not create helmets. We have discussed the feasibility of a heads up display to be located inside the helmet face shield, although it is still conceptual at this time.”
Please read Anderson’s above statement again. Just to ponder what this innovative solution could mean for the safety of players and the betterment of the game is delightful.
In 3 Years SyncThink is Known for _______?
“SyncThink will be the leader in clinical, diagnostic, and performance within mental health. We want everyone to be able to access proper mental health with the consumer devices that are in the market today.”
