11 UI / UX points to keep in mind for a better performing app

  • Using Gradients is in Big Time. While apple’s latest iPhone advertisement has received raving reviews, it is the use of color gradient that makes the ad so effective. We see a lot of shift towards using gradients in-app designs.
  • Swiping is the Only Action Users want to perform. So it is important that the swipe feature becomes an integral part of your app design. Swipe Left, Right, Up, and Down to link the entire navigation of your app.
  • The Cross-App Navigation window at the bottom is a must. Just like the iSMS app in iOS, most of the latest apps need to have a cross-app navigation facility to enable sharing of content from other apps.
  • OmniTheme across all channels. If the UI of the app is changed then the theme must be carried out across all customer channels like web, emailers, SMS, social media pages, adverts, etc. Gone are the days when mere changes in the home page of the app could drive results.
  • Light is the New Heavy. Quick to load, lot of empty space, top and bottom navigation windows, gradient backgrounds, all add to making an app very LightWeight. So keep it light, will travel fast.
  • A/B Testing Everything. Must test, MUST Test MUST TEST….. Test everything, launch nothing, if it is good it will get launched automatically. Also enable auto user feedback from the tested UI which will loop in to improve the current UI.
  • Keep Prototyping till u reach ultimate design fluidity. This is a must. Make prototype after prototype, till u reach a stage where everything is fluid. Trust me when it is fluid u will feel it, Humans are designed to know what is fluid and what is rigid. It is an inherent feeling….the feeling of freedom….so keep prototyping till it is absolutely fluid.
  • Use prototyping tools. Prototyping tools have come a long way and knowing these tools only enable designers to create fabulous designs fast. For me LucidCharts, Marvel are two great prototyping tools.
  • APP first, the rest later. Everything starts and ends with the app, everything else comes in between…..Remember these golden words while making any UI/UX design.
  • Auto Customisation. This is the next level!!! Few dare to go there but this is what will bring great rewards in the near future. Can u auto customize ur app to every user liking….. This means if a user uses a key feature in ur app….then can u open ur app with that as his home page and so on and so forth !!!…… Difficult!! Yeah !! but that is where we are going…so hop on sooner than later.

Digital Assistants (DAs) are Coming !! — — -

Yes and soon we will hand over most of the jobs we do with our hands on our phone with our apps, to the likes of Alexia !! So are u looking at designs that enable this interaction with Digital Assistants seamlessly!!
