Not trying to be disagreeable for the sake of being disagreeable — but — this whole FB is out for blood thing is like saying that LinkedIn is going to kill Medium because they created LinkedIn articles.
What Snapchat has done is to meet an unmet need. It’s not at all clear that aggregating functions on Instagram, FB and WhatsApp — is going to make Snapchat vanish or that the need is going to be met by those platforms.
Moreover — I give you Spectacles — I don’t need them myself but I can absolutely see the creativity in making it crazy easy to snap your story together without having to deal with your phone to make it happen. And then, there’s the NBC play, the drone play, and the way in which snap is embedded in the big screen media capital where creative movie and video people rule the land.
Thinking that Facebook is somehow on the same playing field is short sighted.
Here’s something crazy — a growth demographic for Snap is seniors? I hesitate to ask why that is but…
All I’m saying is — I’ll take that bet and raise you a pile of innovation in directions you haven’t even seen yet…
Cheers!
