We are obsessed with gadgets
What is useful, what is reasonable and what is plain madness
Ok, let me check the number of gadgets i am testing or using in the moment: There are my Note3, the AW414go Smartwatch by simvalley, the acer c720 Chromebook, the Asus Transformer T100T Tablet Hybrid and my workhorse an Acer Notebook. Too many devices? Yes for sure.
When thinking about it, there are only two devices in the moment i really use a lot. My Note 3 and the Transformer Tablet with keyboard dock.
So why this hype about even more gadgets like Smartwatches, Google Glass and so on. As i wrote earlier, the market for smartphone is saturated. Tablets are only useful as consuming device, if you really want your work to be done you need a keyboard. Also with the larger screens on modern Smartphones many do not see the urge to purchase a tablet any more.
I do believe that just two formfactors (if lucky three) will survive.
First the smartphone will stay. It simply is the most convenient way to have the whole Internet with you. Screen size will presumably be somethin around 6 Inch.
Next, there will be notebooks that yet have to come with a screen around 13 Inch that is also detachable and useful as Tablet. So we see two categories combined into one in the future. The pure notebook will disappear for the vast majority of users just like the desktop did in the past.
Chromebooks will only have a chance when they add the detachable tablet screen and way more touch functionality.
And yes, maybe the smartwatch will stay. But not in the setup of today but rather as a multifunctional fitnesstracker, notifier for the big screen smartphone, watch and stand alone device for certain applications.
