Candidates and elected officials like Stacey Abrams, Doug Jones and Roy Cooper prove that change in the South isn’t just a fever dream. And for lots of voters, North Carolina values mean good schools, safe drinking water and affordable healthcare.

But the House majority in North Carolina isn’t interested in those values. So they’ve resorted to some of the most extreme tactics in the country to cling on to power.

They have drawn partisan and racial gerrymanders that have been found unconstitutional — twice. They have gone to war against voting access. In 2016, their voter suppression policies likely decreased African American early voting by around 8.5%. This year they took a new tack, trying to scratch the final Saturday of early voting, a day that in recent years has attracted large numbers of black voters to the polls. And don’t forget that bathroom ban.

Look, changing the North Carolina House is not easy. But at Future Now Fund, we don’t shy away from challenges. We embrace them.

Breaking the existing supermajority and positioning ourselves to put the majority in spitting distance starts with the 18 amazing candidates we’ve endorsed — and it will continue straight through to 2020.

We’re all in on these 18 amazing candidates…

They are lifelong educators. Like Julie von Haefen (NC House District 36), Terri LeGrand (NC House District 74), Rachel Hunt (NC House District 103), Wesley Harris (NC House District 105) and Ashton Clemmons (NC House District 57).

They’ve devoted their careers to advocating for others. Like Sydney Batch (NC House District 37), Christy Clark (NC House District 98), Brandon Lofton (NC House District 104) and Terence Everitt (NC House District 35).

Their unique personal experiences motivated them to run. Like Leslie Cohen (NC House District 20), Marcia Morgan (NC House District 19) and James Gailliard (NC House District 25).

They’ve honed their policy chops in local and state government. Like Kandie Smith (NC House District 8), Ron Wesson (NC House District 1) and Joe Sam Queen (NC House District 119) — who can square dance, too!

And they are NOT stuffy politician types. Like Erica McAdoo (NC House District 63) who has 30 chickens, Ray Russell (NC House District 93) a celebrity weatherman and Lisa Mathis (NC House District 51) who got her first job at 16 (the early morning shift at McDonald’s).

These 18 can power North Carolina’s revival…

With these inspiring candidates, the North Carolina House is in a perfect position to ride favorable electoral winds to the best possible outcome.
