Tl;dr: Applications for the Essentials and Tiny Fellowships are now open! To apply, get more info, or check out more resources, visit 4pt0.org/apply. Applications close 9/30 at noon central.

Learn more about 4.0 here and more about our fellowships here.

The 4.0 team has been diligently planning for the first recruitment cycle of Fund III and we couldn’t be more excited to share the Fall 2019 fellowship application with you! Over the past year, we’ve been planning for our third and most ambitious round of investments. We’re ready to put our plans into action, and we’re excited for you to be a part of them.

Applications for the Essentials and Tiny Fellowships will be open from September 12 to September 30th, 2019 at noon central time. If you head over to 4pt0.org/apply, you’ll find our application for the Essentials and Tiny Fellowship along with resources to help you write an amazing application.

At 4.0, we believe that all people are capable of sparking real change in their communities when they have access to resources to develop their ideas at the earliest stages. We work with people at the earliest stages because we believe that a tiny investment of coaching, community, and capital can have an outsized impact on the trajectory of an idea. Our two fellowships will support over 100 new fellows this year. So, if you’ve got an idea to build a more equitable future of education, we invite you to apply. If you know someone with an idea, we’d love for you to refer them.

What’s New at 4.0

Updated Curriculum

We’re starting this application cycle with a lot of new and exciting changes that have been in the works since Hassan became CEO! One we’re particularly excited to share with you is how we’re updating our curriculum this year. Our new Talent and Idea Development team has been working side-by-side with 4.0 alumni to update our curriculum and define the fellowship experience. Here are a few of the big-picture changes that have been in the works:

  • Alumni Involvement in Building Curriculum — 4.0 Alumni have a huge range of expertise to share and are the best people to know what our fellows crave at every stage of our fellowships. That’s why this year alumni are taking a greater role in building, designing and facilitating curriculum.
  • Talent Development — We believe that intentional focus on leadership development can transform your idea. Because of that, we’ve created a new team, and our curriculum this year has been designed through a lens of talent development with a focus on developing the human skills necessary to thrive as an entrepreneur — specifically self awareness, social awareness, and emotional intelligence. Our alumni will facilitate sessions throughout our fellowships that focus on identity and how it affects the work fellows do — sessions include topics like imposter syndrome, and healthy conflict navigation, among other things.
  • Expanding Curriculum Beyond Camp — There is so much amazing learning that happens before and after fellows join us in New Orleans for their onboarding camp, and this year we wanted to name in our curriculum that camp is only one part of the larger 4.0 Fellowship experience. Before and after camp, fellows will receive coaching to grow their ideas and develop their leadership.
  • Metrics Updates — We are leveling up our measurement and evaluation support for fellows by providing greater access to researchers to coach you in creating and refining measures of success, and institutionalizing a peer review process to ensure that the information you are gathering at your pop-up/pilot is rigorous and meaningful.

A New Website & All the Resources You Need to Write a Great Application

If you head to 4pt0.org you’ll find a new, easier to use website with updated information on our fellowships. Our goal with this redesign was clarity. Our website is 4.0’s digital front door, and we wanted to make sure who we are, what we do, and the resources we offer for applicants, fellows and alumni were clear, simple and easy to find.

One of our favorite new additions to the website is our apply page which we’ve designed to be a one stop shop for anything you need to write a great application. Below are some of the resources we’re most excited to offer this year, but all of these and more can be found at 4pt0.org/apply (Shout out to our friends at Camelback Ventures and Echoing Green for inspiring us and for always raising the bar).

1. Eligibility Quiz

“Am I a good fit for 4.0’s Fellowships?”, “Which fellowship should I apply for?” “Am I at the right stage for 4.0’s fellowships?” — sound familiar? These are some of our most asked questions during recruitment. To help you get the answer faster, we created an optional self assessment to help you decide if now is the right time to apply for a 4.0 fellowship. The assessment is free and has no bearing on your application.

2. Application Toolkit

Ever wish that there was one place where you can find all the information about the application and process? We’ve launched our application toolkit which has a downloadable version of the application, application rubric, process timeline, and FAQs.

3. One Pager

We created this one-pager (with a general timeline) to make 4.0’s application process and fellowships easy to understand. Check it out to learn more about 4.0 and our application process and share with your friends or organizations who might be interested in 4.0.

3. Live Webinars

To help answer your questions, we’re hosting 6 (six!) webinars during the application process. Each webinar will start with 10–15 minutes of key updates on 4.0 programming, followed by a Q&A session answered by 4.0 alumni. Two webinars will be general, two will focus on school founders, and two will focus on early childhood. Click here for webinar dates, times, topics and registration links.

4. Get Application Coaching

We want every applicant to have the opportunity to put their best foot forward. That’s why we’ll have live application coaching from trained 4.0 alumni available every day that the app is open. To chat with our alumni application coaches, drop us a line on our website’s chat box in the lower right corner or shoot us an email at apply@4pt0.org. If talking on the phone is more your thing, you can schedule a time to chat with an alumni coach. For more information on all the application coaching we provide, click here.

5. Events

4.0 Alums are hosting events in 20 cities across the country for you to learn more about 4.0 in-person. Check out our Eventbrite to see if we’re hosting on in your city and RSVP to learn more about being a fellow.

Stay in the Know

For the latest updates on our application and fellowships, sign up for 4.0’s interest list newsletter.

We’re so excited for this application cycle and we hope to see an application with your name on it! To start your application visit 4pt0.org/apply. On our apply page you’ll find additional resources to help you write a great application. Know someone who would be a good fit? We’d love if you referred them.
