SUMMARY OF: II -Might Works and Wonders, Chap10 -Migration, section 35

“STAR OF EPIPHANY” — by Omar Fink 2019

[this is a series of summaries extracted from the novel]

Gitane Levesque reports from Geneva, Switzerland on the unprecedented mass migration of humanity into space. He describes the construction of space elevators and habitats, and the motivations behind this migration. Gitane uses the German word “zugunruhe” to describe the anxious, restless behavior associated with mass migration.

An emotional conflict between Gitane Levesque and Lee Martin reveals Gitane’s struggle with alcoholism and their deteriorating relationship.

As they climb up space elevator-3, over San Marcos, Kenya, Marco Lagorio explains to Kenyan teenagers about the space habitats they’re traveling to. He describes the size of the habitat (comparable to Mount Kilimanjaro), its 320 floors, and the artificial gravity created by rotation. Marco discusses life in the habitat, including food production (mainly algae-based) and daily activities.

Near Mars orbit, Delize Naidu and her children, Lincoln and Zoey, prepare to move from Habitat-8 to Habitat-22. They discuss the challenges of frequent moves and maintaining friendships across different habitats. Delize explains that Habitat-22 will be heading to the asteroid belt, while Habitat-8 returns to Earth for more people.
