SUMMARY OF: II -Mighty Works and Wonders, Chap9 -First Angels, section 31

“STAR OF EPIPHANY” — by Omar Fink 2019

[this is a series of summaries extracted from the novel]

Lee Martin tries to convince the skeptical Gitane Levesque that living in the space habitats will offer a higher standard of living, more space and resources, and opportunities to live extravagantly compared to the limited conditions on Earth.

Then Gitane conducts a broadcast interview with Lee. Lee reassures viewers that the habitats will provide for all their needs like air, water and food. She argues that space living will be more spacious than on Earth and people can even claim their own asteroids to build personal “kingdoms” on if they want.

On Habitat-4, one of the early space habitat rings in Earth orbit, Delize Naidu and her two young adult children, Zoey and Lincoln, are having coffee in what will become a commercial avenue when the habitat is more built out. The kids remark on the plain white decor but Delize says it’s a “blank canvas” to be customized. Zoey complains about having to wear the blue jumpsuits and “under-skin” suit linings. Delize explains they will be able to fabricate custom clothing soon but Zoey should keep wearing the under-skin as it integrates with space suits for safety. Lincoln says he doesn’t mind the suits. They discuss how few people are in the habitat so far, though Delize says it’s designed to ultimately hold millions. Zoey is impatient for more activity but Delize counsels patience, saying they are among the first and more will come over time as the migration progresses. Lincoln looks forward to starting work in the astro-navigation center when he finishes training.
