SUMMARY OF: II -Might Works and Wonders, Chap9 -First Angels, section 32

“STAR OF EPIPHANY” — by Omar Fink 2019

[this is a series of summaries extracted from the novel]

Nabith Mehra and his mother are ascending in space elevator from Thinadoo in the Maldives islands. They discuss being “first angels,” part of the general migration of humanity to space. Nabith explains the size and scale of the habitat ring they’re heading towards.

Close to Habitat-4, in near-Earth-orbit, an emergency situation occurs when the climber car which Nabith is on is hit by a micro particle, causing damage and spinning it out of control. Delize Naidu from Pod Dispatch guides Nabith through attempts to stabilize the climber. Keel O’Donnell arrives to assist but runs out of fuel. Additional pods are sent to help slow down the climber’s approach to Habitat-4.

In Geneva, Switzerland, Gitane Levesque reports on recent events involving Humanity United (HU) and a group called The Resistance. The Resistance has carried out bomb attacks on HU facilities, claiming HU is deceiving the public about a comet threat. HU maintains they’ve been transparent and condemns the attacks as terrorism. Rumors circulate about HU using AI for policy decisions, raising ethical concerns.
