Dealing with paradigmatic change is not what a new year is supposed to bring. However, the consequences of our past decisions become more intense each year, and we need to face them.

Rather than lamenting the poor decisions that have brought us to this reality, we must focus on our success in navigating the change process. Those of us who live in the American Empire, in the US directly or in related states, face social, political, and economic challenges while everyone faces the evolving climate disaster. How do we make this as positive as possible in our families and local communities?

Now, that is a challenge. The hard part is that this challenge is effectively permanent. None of us alive today will see the end of it, nor will our children or grandchildren. If my saying this is a surprise, then you have learned something important.

It could be something you have not heard stated so directly, which is also a good lesson. Because that information is absent, our confusion directly results from the lies and denial propagated by our political and economic systems. At the same time, intentional lying has become prevalent in our societies; not everyone is lying.
