The problem of the single truth
It is difficult to ask why we are descending into chaos because the answer seems obvious, at least to most people, but it isn’t. No, it is not because of Donald Trump. Trump is an agent of chaos but not a cause. The entire cohort he has been involved in selecting is an agent of chaos, but they have little or no clue why.
Yes, we are in the realm of nonlinear complexity that creates a polycrisis. If you follow what I write, you will understand what that means. We have long left the world of easy reality with solvable problems, creating a planetary predicament that is overwhelming us in the 21st century. As you know, problems can be solved, but predicaments have no solution, only outcomes, most of which are very unpleasant and may be terminal.
Changing an outcome requires a fundamental change in how the world is perceived. That basic structure is also known as a paradigm. Paradigms are not things that people think about. They are culturally defined and fixed like the rules of basketball when playing the game.
You cannot be a good player if you must think about the rules as you play. Those rules must be internalized. Breaking the rules is not allowed, and if you do, you are punished.
