Only the lucky will survive and may wish they hadn’t
Many people are mentally adrift in Trump’s chaos but have yet to start thinking about finding a place to land. Now is the time. If I were a decade younger and living much closer to the epicenter, I would be planning to depart before summer. And that might be too late if Trump’s insanity keeps worsening at its current pace.
Many factors are involved in this, so I don’t think it is possible to make generic recommendations. A lot of people who I read are starting to make the call to get out now if you are anything but white, Christian, heterosexual, and not strong on other people’s rights.
That depends on age, financial status, employment, and family ties. Money is the major problem. Most people are burdened with massive debt, and without a few hundred thousand dollars, you need to buy a residency visa or even citizenship in one of the countries set up for expatriates.
The Musk/Trump regime has destroyed both Canada and Mexico as destinations. Panama was also a good place, but that is likely to become Trump’s Maginot Line, an armored border against the coming waves of South American climate refugees. Panama makes a good moat for someone with Trump’s limited knowledge of history.
