The Monday Lament: A Bridge Too Far

Our future was once bright, and failure to achieve our goals motivated us to try harder. At the peak of an individual, organization, or Culture, the rise slows, stops, and things begin to fall.

As gravity slows, stops, and then reclaims a ball thrown in the air, this applies to things as diverse as stock prices, which use a stochastic oscillator to track pricing changes. Modern Culture, based initially on Western European derivation from Mediterranean Classical Civilizations, seems well past its peak and accelerating downward.

In day-to-day reality, we see this on a detailed level as a failure of policies, politics, or poor management of an individual nation-state, economic system, or organization. Usually, that is the case, and there is no larger context or consequence of individual rise and fall.

However, repeated failures to correct the ‘problems’ identified indicate a larger context of failure. It is becoming apparent that this is our current situation. While many people understand this, many more deny it.

Our collapse is much bigger than the American Empire’s political and economic failure; it is a planetary collapse based on overshooting our planet’s resources and structural failure in modern Culture. But we…
