One of the first steps to achieve immortality is to eradicate all kinds of diseases, and the most harmful of all is cancer. A few days ago, Stanford Medicine published the results of a revolutionary immunotherapy treatment that manages to eliminate cancer not only in the area where it is injected, but all the tumors in the rest of the body.

The treatment consists of injecting minimal amounts of two agents stimulating the immune system directly on the solid tumor. This was done on 90 mice: in 87 the cancer was eliminated and not only in the treated area, but throughout the body; and in the remaining three the cancer came back, but with a second treatment, they eradicated it.

Ronald Levy and his team of researchers obtained similar results in cases of breast, colon and melanoma cancer, concluding that the treatment works with different types of cancer, including the ones who shows up spontaneously and the most aggressive breast cancer. Besides the remains of the tumor eliminates untreated distant metastases.

The success of the treatment means that human trials will be starting soon. The clinical trials will initially involve 15 patients affected by lymphoma, and the researchers hope to see results as encouraging as those seen in animal models.
